Police have traced on the run sex offender Kevin Aldred

A dangerous sex offender who went on the run after breaking a curfew on Wednesday is back in police custody.

Kevin Aldred, 39, a registered sex offender, was captured in Oxfordshire within an hour of Thames Valley Police launching an urgent media appeal for information.

Aldred, who was released from Wood Hill High Security Prison in December last year after serving a jail term for indecently assaulting two women in the street, is being held at Oxford Police Station and will be returned to jail for breaking the terms of his licence.

A major manhunt was launched after Aldred broke the curfew and left his home in Oxfordshire at 9.20pm.

The force helicopter spent two days combing the county and PCs on the street were issued with his photograph to aid the search.
